“Dr. Chana Poomee” continues 2nd term on GCCA Board, strengthening green finance connectivity, expanding global–regional collaboration, and driving Net Zero 2050 Agenda

Amid the global momentum to accelerate sustainability actions and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the cement industry continues to play a pivotal role in steering the transition toward a low carbon economy at national, regional, and international levels.

In this context, Dr. Chana Poomee, Chairman of the Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA),has been reappointed as a Board Member of the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA) for a second consecutive term (2025–2027). This milestone reinforces Thailand’s leadership in global sustainability efforts and reflects the confidence of cement and concrete industry CEOs worldwide in the country’s capability to advance meaningful decarbonization cooperation.

Dr. Chana is committed to driving the industry’s ‘Green Transition’, particularly through green finance mobilization and the adoption of low carbon technologies across the industrial sector. With GCCA serving as a key engine for global collaboration, Thailand’s continued presence on the Association’s Board marks a positive signal for strengthening the capabilities of both Thailand and the region, supporting steady and effective progress toward the Net Zero 2050 target.

Through its active engagement with the GCCA, Thailand gains expanded access to global expertise, advanced technologies, and green financing mechanisms vital to accelerating industrial decarbonization. Collaboration networks across international policy, finance, and technology such as UNIDO, World Economic Forum, Asian Development Bank, GIZ, etc., further connect Thailand to key initiatives, from clean energy technologies and carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) solutions to industrial-scale carbon-reduction pilot projects.

Today’s sustainability challenges, including decarbonization, innovation and clean technology development, and access to green finance are central to long-term national competitiveness. Strengthening global partnerships and attracting green investment are therefore vital to ensuring that Thai industries, especially SMEs and local communities, can benefit from the global shift toward a low carbon economy.

“Collaboration with global organizations committed to carbon reduction strengthens Thailand’s strategic position by connecting the world, ASEAN, and Thailand. This not only enhances the effectiveness of Thailand’s decarbonization efforts but also transforms the green transition into a long-term competitive advantage that delivers real value back to the Thai economy.” Dr. Chana said.

In addition to his international role, Dr. Chana holds several strategic leadership positions, including Chairman of Thai Cement Manufacturers Association (TCMA), Vice Chairman of Federation of Thai Industries, and Chairman of ASEAN Federation of Cement Manufacturers (AFCM). These roles have enabled Thailand to act as a bridge linking Thailand–ASEAN–global cooperation. Key achievements include the development of the Thailand 2050 Net Zero Cement and Concrete Roadmap, which made Thailand the first country in the world with a comprehensive Net Zero pathway for the cement sector, the joint announcement of 2035 AFCM Decarbonization Roadmap, unifying action across eight ASEAN cement producing countries; and the launch of SARABURI SANDBOX LOW CARBON CITY, a pioneering low carbon and innovation driven provincial model based on the Public–Private–People Partnership approach.

“Being entrusted with a second term on the GCCA Board is an important opportunity to deepen global collaboration, expand technology access, and mobilize green finance into Thailand and ASEAN region. These efforts will help accelerate a stable and competitive transition toward a low carbon economy. While progress is underway, we must work even closer, faster, and more effectively to deliver real results on the road to Net Zero 2050. With a collaborative Mindset-Action-Value, connecting global insights back into Thailand, I am confident that Thailand will rise as a regional leader and that together, we will enable the Thai industry to
‘win together’ on the path toward a sustainable, low carbon future.” Dr. Chana concluded.
